Brightly wrapped shoe boxes are filling a church in Bath as part of an annual Christmas appeal.

Operation Christmas Child (OCC) sees shoe boxes packed with gifts for children in some of the world's poorest countries.

Volunteers at a collection centre at St John's Church have been working hard to ensure the boxes reach their destination in time.

Schoolchildren from across the city have been getting involved with the appeal.

Pupils at Bathampton Primary School have been among contributing and organiser David Dawson said: "Things started off slowly, but now it's picking up, and we are getting a lot of shoe boxes.

"Work at the centre is going well, and the volunteers are working hard. All the schools in the area are involved."

OCC has been operating for more than 19 years and aims to spread Christmas cheer to children in Serbia, Belarus and Ukraine.
